Product Overview
Square bar is hot rolled from a billet and then either supplied as rolled or cold drawn for a tighter section. The as rolled bar has a controlled corner radius and a straightness of about 0.4% of length, which is what a flame or plasma cutting shop and a forge need; the cold drawn bar is sized and straightened to a much closer tolerance with a bright smooth finish for machined parts. A square section sits flat on a machine bed and resists the spinning a round bar does under a tool, so it is the section of choice for keys, spindles, latches and hand tool blanks.

Applications
Used for machine keys and shafts, gate latches and hinges, tractor drawn implement frames, trailer and truck body framing, pallet and rack components, hand tool and forging blanks, and ornamental ironwork. Machine shops and forge shops in South America, Africa and the Middle East take it in cut lengths, with cold drawn sizes for parts that go straight onto a lathe or mill.
